Fact #48: President William H. Taft appointed Joseph Lamar to the United States Supreme Court in 1911. Justice Lamar, who practiced in Augusta for nearly 30 years, was the only person from Augusta to have become a United States Supreme Court Justice. He served until his death in 1916. |

Fact #49: On November 5, 1912, Woodrow Wilson, who spent his formative years in Augusta and practiced law in Atlanta, was elected President of the United States.
