Community
The Augusta Bar Association is actively involved in the community and public service activities throughout the year. With its Raising the Bar Campaign, the Association focuses its efforts on a particular charity throughout each year, both through fund-raising and volunteerism. Members are encouraged to Raise the Bar by offering their time and other resources to the selected charity. The charity chosen is typically one that may not have the broad recognition and tremendous financial backing of our community. The selected charity of 2010 will be announced shortly.

In 2008, the Augusta Bar Association chose and supported Lynndale, Inc., a private, non-profit support service, which provides people with disabilities and their families valuable and cost effective support, training, and community resources, enabling them to determine their future through informed choices. In 2009, the Augusta Bar Association raised $9000 and conducted a clothing drive for the Garden City Rescue Mission, a local safe haven for homeless and needy people in the Augusta area. It maintains a mens shelter and a separate women and childrens shelter in downtown Augusta.

The Augusta Bar Association celebrates Law Day each year. In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1 to be Law Day - a day of national dedication to the principle of government under law. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Law Day. During this time, members typically engage the public, particularly students, in discussions focused on enhancing knowledge of our governmental structure and legal process. For instance, members will sponsor essay and poster competitions in area schools and visit schools to speak to students.
